About Wesfarmers

From its origins 101 years ago as a Western Australian farmers’ cooperative, Wesfarmers Limited ABN 28 008 984 049 (Wesfarmers) has grown into one of Australia’s largest listed companies. Our diverse business operations across Australia and New Zealand now include supermarkets; home improvement and office supplies; department stores; chemicals, energy and fertilisers; coal; and industrial and safety products. With headquarters in Perth, Western Australia, we are one of Australia’s largest employers, with approximately 205,000 employees and approximately 500,000 shareholders. During the year we generated earnings before interest and tax of $3.8 billion on revenue of $62.4 billion.  We maintained a strong balance sheet during the year, and at 30 June 2015, net debt was $6.2 billion against equity of $24.8 billion.

Wesfarmers is a company limited by shares that is incorporated and domiciled in Australia. It is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange, with the listing code ‘WES’. During the year, we acquired Pacific Brands’ Workwear Group for $180 million and a 13.7 per cent share in Quadrant Energy. Although outside of the reporting period, in August 2015 Wesfarmers announced an organisational restructure and associated senior management changes. Wesfarmers’ three industrial businesses – Chemicals, Energy and Fertilisers; Resources; and Industrial and Safety – have been grouped into a new Industrials division. Further details on the restructure are detailed in the announcement released to the Australian Securities Exchange on 11 August 2015.

There were no other significant changes in the organisation’s size, structure or ownership during the year.
