Kmart supports the health and wellbeing of team members
In September 2014, Kmart Australia launched a three-year health and wellbeing strategy in partnership with the National Heart Foundation, Remedy Healthcare and Sane Australia. The strategy aims to address common health risk factors and improve the physical and mental wellbeing of team members.
The strategy resulted from health assessments conducted across Kmart’s support offices, stores and distribution centres in 2013, which revealed a number of risk factors which could increase the prevalence of chronic illness among team members, such as high blood pressure and not enough exercise.
The strategy aims to address these risks through targeted programs on topics such as healthy eating, active lifestyle and mental health. A range of tools are being utilised to engage team members including education packs, seminars, online training, competitions and events.
The strategy also includes annual health assessments and a personalised health coaching service for team members assessed as high risk to assist them in implementing a personalised health plan.
At the end of the 2015 financial year, 65 team members (including a proportion of high risk team members) across national office, stores and distribution centres, have enrolled in a personalised health coaching program. We will continue to implement the strategy, with the long-term goal of increasing the number of team members that meet national health guidelines and report reduced risk factors.
